Intercessions 2nd May 2021

Intercessions for Easter 5

Intercessor: Richard Smith

Let us pray for constancy and purity in the service of God.

The response to “Sing to the Lord a new song” is For he has done marvellous things.

Jesus, you are the vine and we your branches. Keep us abiding in your life and love. Guard and guide Kevin, our Bishop, Dom, our Rector, and Kevin our lay reader.

Silence

Prune and tend your Church that it may bear fruitful disciples of your grace.

Sing to the Lord a new song- For he has done marvellous things.

Jesus, the Ethiopian official sought to understand your good news. Expand the hearts and minds of all in authority to pursue truth and justice. Grant parliaments and Governments in Westminster and Holyrood grace and wisdom to judge wisely in the responsibilities of their offices. Let people judge the performance of the parties fairly and inspire them to take part in the Scottish Parliamentary election.

Silence

Bring reason for all people to rejoice.

Sing to the Lord a new song- For he has done marvellous things.

Jesus, your love sets our hearts ablaze. Open the hearts of all people to reflect this love in ways that nurture and foster character. Grant our teachers and all those charged with the care and teaching of children, the wisdom of their calling to enhance the lives and prospects of our youngsters as they start to return to more normal schooling.

Silence

Strengthen all who support parenting and provide guidance for the young.

Sing to the Lord a new song- For he has done marvellous things.

Jesus, your love precedes us and we respond with adoration and praise. Give to all who are afflicted grace to bathe in this affection. As you shared our frailty, give comfort to all in distress or adversity, especially those in our congregation. Help all those suffering from coronavirus to find healing.

Silence

Raise us to delight in your loving purposes through good times and bad.

Sing to the Lord a new song- For he has done marvellous things.

Jesus, we are made for your love. Do not forget the children you have made especially all those we now bring to mind.

Silence

May we all come to abide with you for ever.

Sing to the Lord a new song- For he has done marvellous things.

Jesus, you come to meet us, and we ask that you hear our silent supplications.

We will now have a period of silence to offer our own petitions.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our saviour Jesus Christ. Amen
