Intercessions for Sunday 8th August 2021

St Dominic

Let us pray to God, whose saints have shown his glory in the Church and in the world.

The response to “Sing praises to the Lord” is Whose love endures forever.

O God, you have enlightened your Church by the eminent virtues and preaching of St. Dominic, your confessor. Mercifully grant that by his prayers we may be protected against temporal necessities and daily improve in all that is spiritually good.

Silence

May your church’s ministers and all her people know that they too are called to holiness.

Sing praises to the Lord- Whose love endures forever.

Sanctify all human striving towards a better world, that all may work together for good. Let the nations work together to overcome the devastating effects of the coronavirus.

Silence

Give wisdom to all in authority, to learn from those who in the past have governed with justice and mercy.

Sing praises to the Lord- Whose love endures forever.

In all our families, with our friends and at our work, help us to share the grace which we see in the life of Saint Dominic. Help us, in our congregation to emulate the lives of the Order of Preachers.

Grant, Lord, that we may emulate the love and community shown by the Olympic athletes in their striving to compete with each other.

Silence

Bless our community with the love that seeks peace and perfection for all.

Sing praises to the Lord- Whose love endures forever.

Have compassion on those who suffer for the truth. May they find strength in the example of Saint Dominic. Grant strength and courage to journalists who cast light on the darkness of oppression to continue in the face of authoritarian pressure.

We bring before you those on St Michael’s Church prayer list.

Silence

Open the vision of holiness for the comfort of all who are afflicted in mind or body. Lord Jesus, most kind, bless us now and at the hour of our death. O Lord, deliver us from a sudden and unprovided death.

Sing praises to the Lord- Whose love endures forever.

We give thanks for blessed Dominic and for all who have left us a pattern of holy living. Draw to yourself all who have died, especially all those we now bring to mind.

Silence

Give us grace to honour their memory not only with our lips, but in lives that make us worthy to come with them to eternal life in the heavenly glory.

Sing praises to the Lord- Whose love endures forever.

Gracious Lord, we ask that you hear our silent supplications.

Silence

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our saviour Jesus Christ.Amen
